Reason | Few people know that the Pentax nams/brand (derived from pentaprism and Contax) was originally owned by East German optics manufacturer Zeiss Ikon. The name was later bought (some say stolen) by Asahi Optical of Japan, where it later became so popular that the company was re-named to Pentax. Today it is one of the few old Japanese camera brands that survived the beginning of the digital era. Information on this Zeiss Pentax is hard to find and I'm not sure if Zeiss they actually used it commercially, but at least this prototype survived in the Technische Sammlungen Dresden. There is another one in that Category which is technically better, but it doesn't have the Pentax logo. Not geocoded as an indoor-shot, but location of the building is available through Category:Technische Sammlungen Dresden. -- El Grafo (talk) |
