Вікі любить Африку — це щорічний публічний конкурс, на якому люди з усієї Африки можуть вносити медіафайли (фотографії, відео та аудіо) про своє оточення до Вікісховища для використання у Вікіпедії та інших веб-сайтах проектів Фонду Вікімедіа.

«Вікі любить Африку» особливо заохочує учасників додавати медіа, які ілюструють конкретну тему цього року. Щороку тема змінюється і може включати будь-яку універсальну, візуально насичену та культурно специфічну тему (наприклад: ринки, обряди, фестивалі, публічне мистецтво, кухня, природна історія, місто, повсякденне життя, відомі особи тощо). Конкурс «Вікі любить Африку» досяг багато за 7 років:

  • 72,375 images donated by 9,277 submitters to the Commons under a free licence (CC-BY-SA);
  • Wiki Loves Africa images have been viewed 787 million times (Jan 2016 - Aug 2021) – each of those 787 million views has (for that individual reader) challenged the negative stereotypes and visual narratives that persist about Africa;
  • Wiki Loves Africa images are viewed between 23 million and 41 million times each month (depending on the month)
  • Wikimedia Communities in 24 African countries have hosted over 300 participation and training events;
  • The competition attracted high levels of new contributors, averaging 81% over the years;
  • A Wiki Loves Africa prize-winning image was included in The Journeys Through Our Fragile Heritage exhibition at UNESCO, Paris; and
  • Wiki Loves Africa’s ISA tool won the Multimedia category at the WikiData Awards 2019.

Wiki Loves Africa is activated by the Wikimedia community. The competition was conceptualised by Florence Devouard (Anthere) and Isla Haddow-Flood as a fun and engaging way to rebalance the lack of visual representations and relevant content that exists about Africa on Wikipedia and support the WikiAfrica movement.

The 2020 competition is hosted by wikiinafrica.org. It is funded by the Wikimedia Foundation and local partners in individual countries.
Content and events were participants or organizations in : Wikimedia Algeria, Cameroon, Wikimedia Tunisie, m:Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, Open Foundation West Africa, Wikimedia Morocco, Mali, Uganda, Angola, Bénin, Chad, Guinea-Bissau, Guinée, Sénégal, Libya, Botswana, and Zambia.
