Wiki Loves Earth 2017 è un concorso fotografico internazionale che si tiene ogni anno in diversi paesi, avendo come tema il patrimonio naturale (aree protette).
Per ogni Paese partecipante esiste un concorso indipendente organizzato da diversi team locali, quindi periodi, regole, premi, eccetera possono essere leggermente differenti.
Concept
Il principale scopo del concorso è raccogliere fotografie di siti naturali – come riserve, aree di conservazione, parchi nazionali, giardini storici, orti botanici, eccetera – per illustrare le voci delle diverse edizioni linguistiche di Wikipedia e degli altri progetti Wikimedia. Come Wiki Loves Monuments (WLM), usiamo una lista ufficiale di aree protette, solitamente condivise pubblicamente dagli uffici governativi.
Non ci focalizziamo solo sui siti di importanza nazionale, ma anche su quelli protetti a livello regionale e sulla più vasta varietà di siti naturale possibile: foreste, parchi, giardini, rocce, grotte o qualunque elemento protetto nel tuo Paese. Ciò significa che molti utenti potranno trovare diversi siti naturali nelle proprie vicinanze.

Aiuto e FAQ
Organizzare un concorso locale
Se vuoi organizzare Wiki Loves Earth nel tuo Paese devi completare i seguenti step:
- Avere o creare una lista di aree protette rilevanti (su Wikipedia o su Commons). Ogni Paese può avere diversi sistemi con vari livelli di tutela delle aree protette (dai grandi parchi nazionali ai singoli alberi monumentali nel mezzo del nulla). Tutti questi elementi sono solitamente identificati con documenti ufficiali. Se nel tuo Paese non esiste un elenco ufficiale, puoi creare una lista pubblica di aree di valore che possono considerarsi patrimonio naturale.
- Avere o creare chiare raccomandazioni per le foto. Definire su quali aspetti i fotografi dovrebbero focalizzarsi.
- Avere un gruppo di lavoro e nominare un responsabile del coordinamento, ad esempio con un elenco di utenti coinvolti.
- Mettere in piedi una buona giuria per il tuo concorso locale. Pensa anche in anticipo ai possibili premi per i vincitori.
- Creare la landing page su Commons per il tuo concorso locale e aggiornare categorie, template, eccetera (successivamente potrebbe essere necessario chiedere aiuto ad altri utenti per un supporto tecnico, ad esempio per alcuni aspetti particolari del tuo concorso).

Statistiche
- Watchlist – elenco delle ultime immagini caricate e tabella con il numero di immagini caricate per Paese.
- Wiki Loves Competitions Tools – grafici e tabelle con i numeri delle immagini caricate, delle immagini utilizzate, dei partecipanti e degli utenti registratisi dopo l'inizio del concorso.
- Uploaders in Cat – uno strumento che permette di contare il numero di utenti che hanno caricato immagini in una specifica categoria di Commons (per esempio WLE 2015 in Bulgaria) e che produce un elenco con il numero di caricamenti per singolo partecipante.
- Immagini inutilizzate – uno strumento che genere un elenco delle immagini di una specifica categoria che non sono state utilizzate su nessun progetto (o su alcuni specifici progetti) Wikimedia.
