Wiki Loves Food in the Philippines is a photography competition on Wikimedia Commons which aims to promote the Filipino cuisine, and the rich cooking traditions and practices in the Philippines. Inspired by the Wikimedia India's Wiki Loves Food, the Philippine edition aims to celebrate the diversity of Philippine cuisine in different parts of the archipelago. The Indian edition aimed to improve the quality of pictures of different cuisines of the Indian sub-continental region.
The style of food making and preparation, and the dishes associated with them, have evolved over many centuries from a largely indigenous (largely Austronesian) base shared with maritime Southeast Asia with varied influences from Chinese, Spanish and American cuisines, in line with the major waves of influence that had enriched the cultures of the archipelago, as well as others adapted to indigenous ingredients and the local palate.
Filipino cuisine centres around the combination of sweet, sour, and salty, although in Bicol, the Cordilleras and among Muslim Filipinos, spicy is a base of cooking flavor. Counterpoint is a feature in Filipino cuisine which normally comes in a pairing of something sweet with something salty.
Competition rules
We try to keep the competition clean and simple to participate:
All entries must be your own work; do not manipulate original images and make sure that there is no visible watermarks.
All photos must be uploaded between November 1 and December 31, 2022 to be eligible
All photos must be licensed under CC BY-SA license (all images uploaded on Wikimedia Commons are under such license)
Participants must have an active email account, if the organizers wish to contact
Captions and description are required
Do not forget to add categories to your picture it will be helpful to everyone looking for your picture
Make sure that you are not uploading duplicate images
IMPORTANT: All participants must have an account on Wikimedia Commons. If you have not created one, please create a New Account using a laptop or a desktop.
Criteria
The jury will determine the winners taking into the consideration the following criteria (in no particular order):
- Technical quality i.e. sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.
- Originality
- Usefulness as an illustration on Wikipedia
