Левит - законодательная книга. В первой главе мы касаемся темы жертвоприношения. Какая жертва угодна Богу? Бык без изъяна, то есть самая лучшая скотина. Перед обрядом необходимо возложить руку на животное, дабы почувствовать свою причастность жертвоприношению, так как оно символизирует на самом деле нашу жертву Богу, отождествляя нас с животным. Жертвователь сам закалывает быка, священник лишь кропит животное и читает некоторые ритуальные молитвы. Если человек бедный, он может принести в жертву овцу или барана, а также птицу.
