Summary[edit]

Description
English: In the air, a magnesium strip burns with a bright white flame. The intensity of the flame of burning magnesium is much greater if it is immersed in an N2O atmosphere. This means that the rate of the combustion reaction is faster and the reaction can be explained by the equation:
N2O(g) + Mg(s) = MgO(s) + N2(g)

When the combustion takes place, one can notice the formation of white smoke from one of the products of the reaction – MgO.

The experiment was performed by Prof. PhD Miha Bukleski. The planning of the experiment also included the Prof. Emeritus PhD Vladimir Petruševski, Prof. PhD Marina Stojanovska and the student Mihail Trajkov, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
