Description
Deutsch: 1703 von Martin Bernigeroth geschaffener Kupferstich mit dem Portrait des Universalgelehrten Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz unter Allongeperrücke: Brustbild nach rechts vor einem Hintergrund in Kreuzschraffur in profiliertem ovalen Rahmen auf Sockelbrüstung innerhalb eines Parallelschraffur-Rechtecks. Die lateinische Ovalumschrift lautet

„GOTEFRIDVS GVILIELMVS LEIBNIZIVS S[erenissi]mo ELECT[ori] BRVNS[vico-] LVNEB[urgico] AB INT[imis] CONSIL[iis]“

Im Sockel findet sich das in lateinischer Sprache verfasste Distichon

„Hoc duce in immensi penetravimus intima veri,
Nec probat autorem mens magis ulla Deum.“

in der von Peter Mortzfeld für die Die Porträtsammlung der Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel bearbeiteten Übersetzung in der Version vom 26. Februar 1999

„Unter seiner Führung sind wir in die innersten Bezirke der unendlichen Wahrheit eingedrungen,
und doch erweist kein Geist mehr als der seine Gott als den Schöpfer.“

Der Stich zeigt in der Sockelbasis rechts die Signatur

„Bernigeroth sc.“

Das obige Digitalisat ist ein Ausschnitt aus dem 455 x 313 mm großen Blatt mit den Plattenmaßen 296 x 215 mm und den Bildmaßen 288 x 206 mm.
