Summary[edit]
Description1935 Singer 9 LeMans Special Speed (8702933587).jpg |
It wasn't until 1955 Singer was taken over by the Rootes Group. The Singer Nine was built from 1932-37. The original 1933 models had a very abbreviated fender which provided inadequate protection from gravel and dirt kicked up by the front tires. To protect the paint on the side of the car, the 1934 cars got longer, more graceful front fenders and in 1935, saw the addition of running boards and wider doors The Le Mans was the 2 seater race version, it got a hotter engine and fold down windscreen, quite a competetive car on the race track, winning their class in the 1934 Lemans race. In Australia a Singer Lemans won the Australian Grand Prix in 1934. In 1935 the new Special Speed version now got running boards, a larger fuel tank and even more power. This car, a Special Speed, won the Golden Fleece Grand Prix at Phillip Island. Engine; 972cc OHC 4 cyl with twin carbs |
