| Description |
The 100E replaced the E493A, and was built from 1953-59, a completely new car, new integral chassis and independent suspension. Not only built in the UK, but in Australia as well. Available as a 4 door Prefect (vertical bar grille) and 2 door Anglia (horizontal bar grille, later mesh) Available in basic or deluxe, deluxe got a chrome grille, side mouldings, hood ornament. Also available was the Estate, basic was the Escort and upmarket the Squire. It still ran the old 1172 sidevalve, although with some modifications, now with 36hp. During this period, the E93A shape was still available; the 103E Popular, a budget priced car, the cheapest in England at the time. No heater, no chrome, even the bumpers were painted. The Mk II 100E of 1957 got a mesh grille (on the Anglia), fluted bumpers were replaced by rounded, a V bonnet motif and restyled headlight bezels. The 100E Anglia was replaced in 1959 by the 105E (a new shape), as there was no 105E 4 door , the 100E Prefect continued on as the 107E (with the new 105E 997 OHV engine) until the Ford Classic was introduced in 1961. |
