These smaller Austin Healeys, the Sprites were built from 1958-71, The Mk II Sprite replaced the unique Mk I 'Bugeye' Sprite (with headlights on top of the bonnet), the Mk II got a more conventional look, headlights in the guards and a proper boot. The engine was much the same tho. An MG version was also made called the MG 'Midget' 1958 MkI; The Bugeye Sprite, 948cc. 1961 MkII; Same engine , new body. (MG Midget Mk I) 1962 Mk II; bigger 1098cc engine and disc brakes. 1964 MkIII; Curved screen, wind up windows, hinged quarter light windows and exterior door handles. (MG Midget MkII) 1966 MkIV; now 1275cc (MG Midget Mk III) |
