Summary[edit]

Description

The Leyland P76 was built from 1973-75, it was a large car that was produced by Leyland Australia, competition for the other large Australian produced cars, the Ford Falcon, Holden Kingswood and Chrysler Valiant. Many of the cars design features were miles ahead of its time, but due to its controversial look, strikes and the world wide oil crisis, the P76 was in trouble before it even hit the showroom floors. Leyland and its associates closed down in 1975. The P76 had a wedge shape, with a massive boot and plenty of room inside. Only available as a sedan, 3 models were available; Base model was the Deluxe, single headlight front, bench seats, (bucket seats were an option) column shift, rubber floor mats Mid spec was the Super, dual headlight front, chrome trim, bucket seats, floor shift, woodgrain dash and door trims Top was the Executive, it got rubber bump strips on bumpers, standard V8, power steering, reclining buckets and courtesy lights. The Targa Florio was the sports model, based on the Super, but with side stripes, standard V8, auto, LSD and alloy wheels The Force 7 Coupe never made into production, only a few Prototypes were made, 10 Prototypes have survived.

Engines; 121hp 2623cc 6 cyl from the Austin Kimberley and Tasman, or 192hp 4416 alloy V8, a derivitive of the ex Buick Rover V8
