Description

The nameplate of brand new steam locomotive 60163 Tornado which is fitted to the smoke deflectors. The locomotive was named after the Panavia Tornado fighter aircraft flown by the Royal Air Force.

This is the nameplate on the right hand side of the locomotive, and features the crest of the RAF station, RAF Cottesmore (official image), which depcits images of a hunting horn, a five-pointed star and a horseshoe, with the motto: We rise to our obstacles. The nameplate on the left hand side (image) carries the RAF Leeming crest.

Only four of the original 49 Peppercorn A1 class locomotives also featured crests as part of their nameplates, representing railway company crests, the rest had none (such as 60131 Osprey).
