Summary[edit]

Description
English: Oscillatory reactions

The phenomenon of oscillating chemical reactions was first discovered (independently) by Boris Belousov and Anatol Zhabotinsky. In all cases of such reactions it is dealt with systems ‘far from equilibrium’.

In this particular case, a solution of diluted sulfuric acid containing malonic acid and potassium bromated is prepared. Upon addition of manganese(II) sulfate, periodic color changes occur in the system: orange-brown (color of manganese(IV)) – colorless (color of manganese(II)).[1]

Performed by the retired Prof. PhD Vladimir Petruševski. The planning of the experiment also included the Prof. PhD Miha Bukleski and the students Mihail Trajkov and Darko Stojčev, Department of Chemistry, FNSM, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje, Macedonia.
