Description9.2inchHowitzerCorbieMay1918.jpeg |
Unidentified British gun crews with two camouflaged 9.2 inch Mk I howitzers, 'Ann' (left) and 'Berdameda' (right) which were presently engaged in supporting the Australian Corps. The box in front of 'Ann' is known as a dirt box, which was filled with soil and attached to the gun to act as a counterweight to the force of the blast and keep the gun in position. On the side of the box are a crown, an anchor and a three leaf clover. Note in the background a timber structure, probably an observation tower.
