Description
Español: Carta de Ovidio Lagos (1825-1891) a Rufino Ortega (1847-1917), gobernador de la provincia de Mendoza y coronel, enviada desde Rosario el 29 de mayo de 1884 por medio de la cual agradece el reconocimiento y los obsequios obtenidos con motivo de los festejos por la llegada del ferrocarril (FF.CC.). Da muestras de gratitud y reconocimiento para con el pueblo mendocino y destaca el papel de relevancia ocupado por Mendoza en la historia de la Independencia. Realiza comentarios en relación a la llegada de la locomotora a esa provincia y a la conexión que hay con Chile por medio de los Andes. Hace referencia a la batalla del progreso librada por esa provincia así como la importancia de la batalla de Chacabuco; las batallas libradas en el pasado han servido para construir una nueva Nación y la llegada del FF.CC. simboliza, según su percepción, el advenimiento de las ideas modernas, la civilización y el progreso. Señala la grandeza que la locomotora traerá a la República que aclama la atención de Europa. La nota posee membrete del establecimiento tipográfico y litográfico "La Capital"
