Summary[edit]

Description

Apollo 14 Hasselblad image from film magazine 64/LL - EVA-2.
Part of this photo is shown in figure 3-24 of the Apollo 14 Preliminary Science Report (SP-272), which has the following caption:

Fillet on Weird Rock near station F.

The text of the Report states:

Weird Rock. Weird Rock (fig. 3-24) is 700 m southeast of Cone Crater rim. In places, the edges slope steeply inward. Very thin filleting occurs on the south and west sides, but the rock has a pronounced ridge of darker fines and fragments trending about north-south against the eastern end that extends for several meters to the south and east. This thick fillet, as shown on more distant photographs, contains numerous small clasts and appears to be the margin of an ejecta blanket that banked against the eastern side of Weird Rock. A few patches of dark fine material are evident on the southward-sloping surface about midway up the rock. The height-to-width ratio of 0.65 is high, indicating that the rock may not be very deeply buried.
