Summary[edit]

Description

In late 1966 a new British United group corporate livery was introduced, the dark blue fuselage band being replaced by a two-tone, sandstone and light blue band that turned to run up the tail fin. The band was punctuated near the nose by black italic ‘BUA’ lettering, with an adjacent sandstone/light blue square logo featuring a stylised outstretched-wing bird shape. This was supposed to face forwards on both sides of the aircraft, but when G-APNH was repainted at Southend in Nov 1966, the port side logo was faced rearwards. It was the only Carvair so painted and the error was never corrected, as this shot of ‘PNH lifting off from Southend in the summer of 1967 shows. G-APNH remained with BUAF/BAF until 18 Mar 1971, when the nose-wheel collapsed during a gusty cross-wind landing at Le Touquet. The aircraft was damaged beyond economic repair and after the engines, instruments and other components were salvaged the remains were scrapped.
