10, 1737, d May 8,1823, aged 85 years 5 months 28 days. At thetime of her death she was the mother of 12 children,had 109 grandchildren and 103 great grandchildren.Christian Fretz was one of the executors of hisfathers estate, and inherited the old homestead inBedminster where he lived and died. To the home-stead he addtd l/y purchase from his son John, thetract knoun as the Poor Fields in 17^53, consist-ing of about 30 acres. He and wife were membersof the Mennonite church, and wor.shiped in the evermemorable Old Stone Church at Deep Run, whichwas the oldest Mennonite congregation in Bucks Co.In his day the Indians were yet quite numerous, andoften quite troublesome. It is related that ChristianFretz had a very fine horse, to which the Indianstook a particular fancy, and wanted to buy, but hewould not sell it. The Indians however, determinedto get possession of the horse, and came by nightand stole it. Some time after, it was ascertainedwhere the horse was, and he went to the Indian

The Indians had a custom of just before retir-ing for the night, to go outside of their wigwams andshout and make a great noise to freighten away thewild animals. Knowing this to be the signal for re-tiring, he waited until he thought they were soundas-sleep, then entered the lot, secured the horse,and returned home with it. It is also related thathis son Joseph had a very fine young horse, andthat during the Revolutionary war, when Washing-tons Army was encamped below Newton, thatforaging teams, accompanied by an officer on horse-back, came to Christian Fretzs place for hay forthe army, that the officer saw the horse, and inconversation with the foragemen, said it was a finehorse, that he would try and bu)^ it, but if he couldnot buy it, he would have it anyway.
