Text Appearing Before Image:
Brethren. It is to be hoped that at no distant day a historyof these children of God may be written that theworld may know who they were and how they li\-ed.The simple inscriptions on the marble slabs aremere texts to the historian, from which he may v.^ritean entrancingly interesting story. Among the many graves is an unmarked one beforewhich one pauses for meditation deep and long. All I crave is the pearly drop from Charitysmeek eye to dim a little my numerous follies as Ijourney to the grave. And when laid there, letsilence with my quiet dust reside, nor marble tell thepassing traveller where the wandering pilgrim sleeps. And yet, there is a sound too that I could desiremight perfume the air around my grave, and a balmI hope will flourish there. I mean the widow andorphan confessing me their friend in life—this wouldbe fame sufficient. And her wish, thus written in 1826, is fulfilled.Harriet Livermore, the Pilgrim Stranger, sleepsin an unmarked grave in the Brethren burying ground

H., April 14, 1788; the daughter otEdward St. Loe Livermore, Justice of the SupremeCourt of New Hampshire and for several termsUnited States Senator. In the capital of the Na-tion, under the most attractive social conditionsshe surrendered herself wholly to Jesus, and becamea wandering light, shedding in a thousand heartswarmth and cheer. Four times she journeyed toPalestine, and her voice was heard in all parts of herown continent. It is Harriet Livermore to whomWhittier refers in Snoiv Bound 2.% Another guest that winter night,Flashed back from lustrous eyes the light.Unmarked by time, and yet not young,The honeyed music of her tongueAnd words of meekness scarcely toldA nature passionate and bold,Strong, self-concentered, spurning guide,Its milder features dwarfed besideHer unbent wills majestic pride. She sat among us at the best,A not unfeared, half-welcome guest.Rebuking with her cultured
