They gather around a longtable, a hymn is sung, and in the silent evening hour,with no witness but God, and curious children, thesepeople begin the observation of the ordinances ofGods house on Christmas evening, 1723. The sisterson one side, the brethren on the other, arise andwash one anothers feet. Then they eat the LordsSupper, pass the kiss of charity with the right handof fellowship, partake of the holy communion, singa hymn, and go out. It is night!
