The many letters, laboriouslyand neatly copied into these oldvolumes, form very interestingreading, although one is stirredto anger at discovering themutilation and defacement ofmany pages by scribbling foolsshown. The Astor strong box may be seen at Col. Fentons curiosity store. During much of the period defined by the writer, quoted as the fifth epoch,Mackinac Island was a port of considerable importance.
