e usually it lies directly in the path oftravel. After viewing this attraction and the magnificent Niagara River, his course will probably be across Lake Ontario, a distance of 45 miles, tothe City of Toronto, the Provincial Capital. Toronto is a convenientcentre, tor from thence he may proceed East, West or North, as inclina-tion directs. The eastern route is preferably by boat along the north shore ofJ^e . Lake Ontario, past Port Hope, Trenton, Belleville, Picton andIslands. Kingston, all pleasant summer resorts, to the River St. Law- rence. Here the famous archipelago of the Thousand Islandis entered. For fifty miles the vessel picks its way among these charmingislands, where with every new water stretch a fresh vista opens to theview, each more beautiful than the last. That this is a famous summeringplace is at once apparent from the homes that have been built either amongthe pine trees, or perched on rocky bluffs, or half hidden in the beautifulbays. After the passage of the rapids is made, the City ot Montrealis soon reached, which at the present time is the head of ocean navi-gation. From Lachine, a pleasant trip may be made up the Ottawa River, which forms the boundary between Ontario and Quebec, to the City ofOttawa.
