Description
English: Title: A steamboat race on the Mississippi, (between the Baltic and the Diana)

A steamboat race, between New Orleans and Louisville of 1382 miles, which took place in March 1858, originally painted by George F. Fuller (1822-1884), and later engraved on stone by A Weingartner of New York. Lithographic print published in 1859.

The BALTIC was the winner of the race, arriving on March 25, 1858 in Louisville; the DIANA arrived at Louisville one hour and 45 minutes later.

Baltic, built 1857 at New Albany, Ind., acquired by the United States Quartermasters Department during the Civil War, serving with Admiral David Dixon Porter on the Red River in 1864.
