These fingersbeing independent of the main-drum fingers proper and notbeing in line with them vertically, but being in line withthem horizontally, can make contact with one part of a drumtip, while one of the drum fingers proper is resting onanother part of the same tip. For example, on the firstpower notch, main finger B makes contact with tip B D^ atthe same time that auxiliary finger DR makes contact withits mate B D^. The object and action of these auxiliaryfingers will be taken up later. 91. The Revei*se Drums.—The reverse drum proper^which is used to reverse the direction of motion of the car,is in the top right-hand corner of the drawing.
