Summary[edit]

Description Members of the Combined Air Power Transition Force's "Thunder Lab" an English immersion lab, fly kites on September 1, 2010 at Kabul International Airport, Kabul, Afghanistan. Flying kits is a traditional celebratory activity in Afghanistan; the activity encouraged team building between the Afghan lieutenants and the coalition forces that live and work together on a daily basis. Thunder Lab helps prepare recent graduates from the National Military Academy of Afghanistan for success, whether their future is as a pilot or maintenance officer in the Afghan Air Force. Some of these lieutenants will go on to attend flight school in the United States. Thunder Lab helps them maintain or improve their English language capabilities and prepares these lieutenants for the cultural differences they will experience in the United States. The program also strives to instill qualities such as integrity and leadership in the soon-to-be officers. Photo by Petty Office 1st Class Christopher Mobley.
