wels andhand of my poor childin my arms. One ofmy elder sisters chil-dren had his leg broken,which being perceivedby the Indians, theyknocked him on thehead. Thus were webutchered by thosemerciless savages, theblood running down atour feet. My eldestsister being yet in thehouse, seeing the In-dians hauling mothersone way, and childrenanother, and some wal-lowing in their blood, and being told that her son William was dead, and that I was wounded, she exclaimed, Lord,let me die with them ! No sooner had she said this than she was struck with a bullet, andfell down dead over the threshold. The Indians now laid hold on us, pulling me one wayand the children another, saying, Come, go along with us. I told them that they wouldkill me. They said if I was willing to go along with them they would not hurt me. Ofthirty-seven persons in the house but one escaped; twelve were killed, and the others, mostlywomen and children, carried into captivity. The prisoners were divided among their captors;
