lso done good and individual work, but his talent has not yetbeen so strongly displayed along this line as to make a detailed criticism of its results a matterof necessity. I do not think he has ever worked very much in water-colors, although a largepicture called The Turkish Carpet Bazar was done in this medium some few years ago, andis here sketched for us by the artists hand. As an etcher, also, he has not produced a greatdeal of work, but we may surely expect clever things with the needle from a man whose handis so free and true. His etching of the Court Jester is a good example of the skill to which hehas thus far attained. Before attempting to give some slight summary of Mr. Chases general artistic character, Imust speak very briefly of those pictures which are too important to be left unnoticed, butwhich are only known to me from reproductions. Among such are the five portraits of Pilotyschildren, which, from the photographs, we may certainly venture to rank among his strongest
