Original Articles 623 FUNCTIONAL AND ORGANIC DISEASES OF THE ALIMENTARY TRACT. SOME POINTS IN THEIR DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT By John Dudley Dunham, A.B., M.D.Member American Gastro-cnterological Association, Columbus, Ohio The title of this paper perhaps needs a word of explanation: In the use of the term functional disturbances of the stomachand alimentary tract, I wish to include cases in which gastric symp-toms arise as a result of diseases in quite remote organs. A woman of thirty-two years who consulted me quite recently forliver and stomach trouble illustrates this latter class of cases. For six months she had a gradual loss of weight, frequent attacks ofvertigo, accompanied by nausea and a metallic cough with no expec-toration.
