but stand 260 pounds more pressure thanwhen first made. Unequal settlement, which cause lead joints to giveway and leak. Leadite joints have been thoroughly testedon this line by removing the blocking from under a lineof pipe, except the blocking at each end, allowing theline of 98 feet to sink two feet in the centre, withoutcausing a leak when one hundred pounds pressure was onthis line. Oxidation and electrolysis, which eat out leadjoints, have no effect on Leadite whatever. Jar, shock and vibration. On these points we haveamply tested Leadite joints, as before stated. We alsomade a test on the line of pipe now at Twenty-sixth andMaster streets water works yard by striking the bonneton tlie end of line with a heavy sledge ten times, tryingto knock it off. This was considered a very severe test,as this line noAV stands a ))ressnre of o()() ))()nn(ls to thesquare inch. Leadite is shii)ped in ))owder form in l)arrels and bags—^^300 and 3r)0-p()nnd barrels and lOO-ponnd bags. Bags 40

are charged until returned in ood order and fi*eit»lit pre-paid. Leadite is melted and poured just the same as lead.Only about 400 degrees of heat is needed to melt Leadite.^^e recommend a gasoline furnace for this purpose, asthe heat is more ejisily regulated than a coke furnnce.Leadite recpiires to be kept stirred when it begins to meltand until it is as liquid as oil and until the foamor frothdies oft*—then it is ready for pouring. As Leadite is only one-sixth the weight of lead, a gateor cup three inches higher than be^ of pipe should bemade of pipe chn, so that the top of joint may be welltilled with Leadite. This pouring gate can be knocked offAvhen the Leadite is perfectly chilled, and can be remelt-ed, so there is no waste of material. Should the Leaditewhen melting get overheated it will get stiff and will notpour freely. Eenioye the heat and keep mixing or stir-ring a little while and it will become quite liquid again.Should any part of joint be missed in the pour
