When they saw the animal fall from so greata height they broke out in shouts of wonderment, and thisevent was for a long time the leading subject of conversationamong them. It proved to be a female with a remarkablylarge young one, entirely covered with hair, in her pouch. Theyoung one, which had also received a fatal shot, was nearlyhalf the size of its mother. Although it was midsummer, theanimal had a full coat of hair on its beautiful skin. I havefound no marsupials of this kind since, and the two abovedescribed are the only specimens that have hitherto beenshot. The Pseiidochinis lemuroides is not found in the partof the Coast Mountains lying east of Gowri Creek. Wefirst meet with it in the mountains between Gowri Creekand Herbert river, and it increases in number as we proceedtoward the north ; these two specimens were shot in atable-land scrub.
