Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On Tuesday, March 22, 2016, the Oklahoma Forest Service (OFS) sent a notice to state firefighters which read, "Wednesday's fire weather is shaping up to be the most challenging seen in a while." It also cautioned that they should expect that "any fire that starts to be extremely resistant to control. Expect rapid rates of spread and extreme fire behavior on any fire that occurs Wednesday".

As predicted, a fire that sparked in northern Oklahoma on March 22 took advantage of the challenging conditions and rapidly spread, consuming almost 400,000 in three counties across two states within three days. Most of the damage occurred in Kansas, where the Anderson Creek Fire became known as the largest in that state's history.

On March 29, the OFS reported that the fire was 95% contained in Oklahoma, and 81% contained in Barber County and 90% contained in Comanche County, Kansas. At least 16 residences were destroyed, and Oklahoma reported 600 head of cattle died in the fire.
