These areheld by an assistant in such manner as to afford considerabledirect upward traction. With the cord tense from traction thecareful dissection is continued up the inguinal canal until a pointis reached well above the diseased or indurated portion of thecord. If the entire cord is diseased, then we should proceed upthe canal to a point in close proximity to the internal abdominalring. Usually after the cord is released from its scrotal adhe-sions the remainder of the dissection process can be completed bytearing with the fingers. All freely bleeding blood vessels—excepttlmse in cord itself—should be ligated as you proceed. Whenthe growth is freed from all surrounding attachments the ecraseurchain should be placed around it as high up as necessary
