ows that the mode of the flock remainedbetween 100 and 149 eggs until the 1917 pullets finished their year in the fall of 1918. This fact does not signify a lack of progress in increasing the egg productionof the flock between 1913 and 1918. There was a total increase during this periodup to the end of the laying year ending in 1918 amounting to an average of 12.97eggs per hen. The graph for the hatching year 1913 would seem to indicate ahigher degree of production in the flock as a whole than could be maintained in theflocks hatched in 1914 and 1915. This is only an apparent discrepancj^, however,as explained by the fact that only about half the available flock hatched in 1913could be trap-nested to the end of their laying year. The half selected representedthose having the highest record for the first half of their year and consequently arca select group. It was found necessary to dispose of most of the stock andexercise rigid quarantine measures. This prevented the completion of any annualrecords during 1920. Referring again to Chart I, the mode of the flock will be observed to have ad-vanced m 1920 to the 200 to 249 egg class, with a ske^vness indicating that themode of the flock lies considerably above the average, in other words, a bimodalcondition begins to present itself.
