Text Appearing Before Image:
. I will push open the door, and before hewas half way through, the bench, the bar, the jurors were perfectlyentranced with his ability and eloquence, and when conclusion re-sulted in acquittal, amid the reverence of the brethren of the benchand bar and the embrace of the friends of the accused, presentingtheir rich gifts as feebty expressing their appreciation of his masterlyeffort. All due to that opportunity to push open the door. Letus stop the wastes and a new era will dawn upon Vermont farming. 21
Text Appearing After Image:
BREEDING MERINO SHEEP. 323 BREEDING MERIJNO SHEEP. By Henry Lane of Cornwall, Member of the Board. There are but few, if any, principles of breeding that all breeders willagree are established beyond a doubt. Many of these laws are asyet hidden from us. or imperfectly understood. The ideal standardfor a Merino sheep differs among breeders, and the course pursuedto obtain and perpetuate the desired type also differs. All the knowl-edge, experience, skill and success of our best breeders has left manyquestions yet unsolved. What we do not know is more than whatwe do know. If any breeeder, by long continued and close observation, or careful experiments, has succeeded to his satisfaction, andhas knowledge beyond any of his predecessors, this light should notbe concealed beneath a bushel. I believe that in the breeding ofMerino sheep, and in their improvement, there has been developedas much, if not more, skill and intelligence, and as good care, as inthe breeding of any kind of farm stock
