GLYPHS FROM STELA J, COPAN THOMAS) COPAN INSCRIPTIONS STELA J 779 Maudslays photograph of this third row as published in hi.s plate65 is, so far as the first group, which includes the date mentioned, isconcerned, too dim and impeifect to determine the glyphs with evena reasonable degree of certainty, but as Mr Goodman had originalphotographs, and Maudsluys drawings are more complete, the originalinscription may have been clearer than the published photograph(autotype). From the drawing, the Ahau symbol is seen to be of theusual form, but the attached numeral, if it he such, is a face charactersimilar to the second form of 10 given by Mr Goodman. The number13 over the month symbol is of the usual form (l)alls or dots and lines);the month symbol is incomplete, but the remaining portion, as givenin the drawing, with the exception of the cap piece, which is like thatof Chen, is more like Yax, Zac, or Ceh. The symbol for S days in thereckoning is separate from the chuen symbol. The number
