Summary[edit]

Description

Coach car of The Apache. The train was a joint effort by the Rock Island and Southern Pacific Railroads, which traveled the same route as the en:Golden State Limited. While the Golden State was an express train between Los Angeles and Chicago via El Paso, Texas, The Apache made many more local stops.

The Apache operated between 1926 and 1938. It was eventually replaced (in 1946) by The Imperial. The train appears to have been trying to compete with the Union Pacific/Chicago and North Western train, the en:Challenger (train) and the Santa Fe's en:Scout (train for budget-minded travelers between Chicago and Los Angeles.
Date No date was shown on the brochure, so copyright renewals were searched for the entire time the train was on the rails.

  • The renewal records for periodicals and also for pamphlets was searched for the years 1959 to 1964, as I wasn't able to find a year for the brochure. There were no renewals for either Chicago Rock Island or Southern Pacific Railroads. While I believe the brochure was never copyrighted, I've licensed it as not renewed, especially since the year is not known.
