Several Copper 396 MINES AND MINERAL RESOURCES. companies, namely the Red Cap, La Perin have held claims onthe ridge between Boise and Red Cap creeks and have done considerablework. Much rich copper ore has been found in the slides from the hillsbut the ore has never been found in place. No development is beingdone at the present time and the old tunnels have caved in and thebuildings gone to ruin. Nothing in the way of development is being done on Lassen Creek inT. 1 S., R. 4 E., or on the Rainbow or Crimson groups, in T. 1 S., R. 1 E.,in the IMattole mining district. Horse Mountain District. Mill of the Horse Mountain Copper Mine, Humboldt County, California. HUMBOLDT COUNTY. 397 stock company. The railroad from Eureka runs to within 25 miles ofthe mine and this distance is covered by a good wagon road. Theoriginal claims were located by Dave Wilson in 1907. The strike of theformation is northwest and southeast and dips about 40° NE. Thereare six crosscut tunnels and one adit level, also some open cuts. Thereis 3000 feet of underground development, mostly drifts and crosscuts.Steam supplies the power for the sawmill and two Huntington mills(one being 3J and the other 5 feet). It also furnishes power for aBlake ore crusher, two Dodge secondary crushers, one Standard andone United concentrating table and two classifiers. Twenty-six menare employed underground and on the surface. Some concentrateshave been shipped to Humboldt Bay but have not reached the smelter. The middlings are stored for future treatment.
