UNITED AIR LINESMAINTENANCE BASE San Francisco, California WAYNE W. GRAY. ALA Landscape Arcchitest and Designer United Airlines, Inc. Member Association of Landscape Architects LANDSCAPE United Airlines, as part of their tremendous ex-pansion program, is constructing a new Mainte-nance Base at the San Francisco Airport. In accord-ance with their policy of thoroughness and excel-lence in planning and service it was deemed de-sirable to retain a Landscape Architect through theentire phase of construction not only to plan thelandscaping but to act as coordinator on mattersof interior color schemes, floor coverings, furnish-ings, and the design of particular architectural de-tails. The rather difficult site of the base presented anumber of problems to the Landscape Architect.Very strong prevailing West winds; fire; dustysoil; and an unsightly slough called for special at-tention.
