O. W. NORTON, April, 1861In uniform of Girard Guards. LETTERS OF 1861 Camp VVilkins, Pittsburgh, Penn., Friday, May 10, 1861. Dear Sister L.:— I hardly know where to begin or what to write. Alymind is, perhaps, in the same condition as yours—a gooddeal confused. It is a damp, rainy morning, so rainy thatno companies will be out for drill until the weather is morefavorable, so I have leisure to write. My health is toler-ably good. I have been sick with a severe cold one dayso I could not drill, but a wet towel cured thatand I have had a turn of sick headache; beyond that Ihave been very well. I feel very well this morning. I hada good breakfast, had milk in my coffee, and last night wehad butter. The day I had the sick headache, I got nothing forbreakfast but a piece of dry bread, and at noon we hada rice soup that was burnt so as to be nauseous. I ate agood quantity, however, and, consequently, nnatc it andate no more till the next night. We have fixed up our quarters first-rate.
