hout a dissenting vote aresolution offered by Count Seebach, director of the RoyalTheater at Dresden, was unanimously adopted which boundthe members of the society to grant no leave of absence toany singer who wished to go to America and not to engageany singer who accepted an American contract, the agree-ment to last for five years. The action, Count Seebach said,had nothing to do with the war, but was only a measure ofself-protection on the part of German theaters. In fact, heprofessed to want it understood as directed against Germanartists rather than American managers.
