Summary[edit]

Description
English: Designed by Thomas Hamilton in 1846 as the New North Road Free Church, this building is now one of the main theatre venues for the annual Edinburgh Festival 'Fringe'. It takes its name from the formerly adjacent site of the City Poorhouse to which lunatics were committed.
