ves a service which permits subscribers to handletheir own messages, telephone or telegraph, in theirown way. Telephone typewriter instruments have toa large degree the flexibility of telephone instrumentsand can be interconnected through suitable switch-boards in the same manner. It is, therefore, quitefeasible to provide a large number of subscribers intheir business offices with these instruments and to fur-nish wire interconnections between these subscribersas they may indicate their desires. The service neednot be confined to a single city but any subscriber inNew York may be connected to any subscriber similarlyequipped in some other city, the time required to com-plete this connection being of the same order as thatrequired to complete a telephone connection betweenthe same two points.
