Even while feeding upon afood which possesses a strong resinousflavor, the flesh of the Dusky Grouseis said to be fairly attractive. They are solitary birds and it is sel-dom that more than three or four adultsare seen together. Of course a familyof young, dependent upon the motherbird, make quite a party, but when theycan take care of themselves separationensues. It is only when the young areunable to fly into the branches of treesthat these tree-loving Grouse roost onthe ground. When disturbed, the youngquickly hide under leaves, bushes, orlogs, and their mother flies away andmakes an effort to attract attention toherself.
