Description
Русский: Битва новгородцев с суздальцами (Чудо от иконы "Знамение"). Новгород, середина XV века. Дерево, темпера. 133x90. Государственная Третьяковская галерея.
В основе сюжета иконы лежит действительное историческое событие. В 1169 году войска суздальского князя Мстислава Андреевича, сына Андрея Боголюбского, осадили Новгород, но не смогли взять его, благодаря чуду от новгородской святыни – иконы «Богоматерь Знамение». На иконе последовательно раскрывается это событие. В верхнем регистре – новгородцы молятся перед иконой «Богоматерь Знамение» у церкви Спаса на торговой стороне, затем переносят ее в детинец к собору Святой Софии. В среднем регистре – послы ведут переговоры и одновременно начинаются военные действия, суздальцы мечут стрелы в икону «Богоматерь Знамение». Икона, стоящая на башне, заслоняет собой новгородцев и ослепляет врагов. В нижнем регистре изображено выступающее из крепостных ворот новгородское войско, которое возглавляют святые воины Георгий, Борис и Глеб. Справа – разбитое смятенное войско суздальцев. «Знамение от иконы Богородицы (Битва новгородцев с суздальцами)» – яркий, характерный пример новгородской иконописи эпохи расцвета. В ней воплощена мощная духовная энергия; композиция отличается ясностью, выверенностью и четкостью построения; цветовая гамма с преобладанием киновари глубоко самобытна.
