DUTCH COURTING. On Sunday evenings lovers called upon their sweethearts. When themaidens had their outfit complete their lovers obtained from the Gover-nor a license to be married. The dominie came and married them. Theda\ after the wedding everybody came to shake hands with the bride andbridegroom, and to eat pies, cakes, dough-nuts, and cheese, and drink rum,brandy-schnapps, port, punch, and Madeira. At funerals there was much eating and drinking. Scarfs and gloveswere given to all the deceaseds friends, and it was astonishing the num-ber of friends some had !
