For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Zentralbild-Biscan Wjt-Ku 30.9.1954 Magdeburg rüstet zur Tausend-Jahr-Feier Bisher 1,3 Millionen DM für die Wiederherstellung des Magdeburger Doms ausgegeben. Der Magdeburger Dom, ein Meisterwerk gotischer Baukunst, wurde knapp vor Kriegsende von amerikanischen Sprengbomben und Artilleriegeschossen schwer beschädigt. Die Regierung der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik hat sich für die Instandsetzung dieses wertvollen Kulturdenkmals eingesetzt. Bisher wurden aus den Mitteln des Staatshaushaltes 1,3 Millionen DM für die Bauarbeiten am Dom ausgegeben. Auch im Haushaltsplan 1955 sind wieder 100.000 DM vorgesehen. Bis zur Tausendjahrfeier im nächsten Jahr wird die Wiederherstellung des Doms abgeschlossen. UBz, Der Dom zu Magdeburg in seinem heutigen Zustand nach Beseitigung der grössten Kriegsschäden.
