Description

La Cétoine grise, Oxythyrea funesta, est une espèce de coléoptères de la famille des Cétonidés, de la sous-famille des Cétoines. Elle doit son nom à sa forme en bouclier (thyre-) pointu (oxy-). Funesta évoque sa couleur noire et son aspect mortel pour les plantes dont elle se nourrit.

Synonymes : Cétoine noire à points blancs, « drap mortuaire », cétoine funeste.

Cette cétoine phytophage est considérée comme insecte nuisible car elle ne se nourrit pas seulement de pollen, mais aussi des organes floraux, en particulier des bourgeons et fleurs de couleur claire (les fleurs d’iris et de roses notamment).
