Deutsch: Das erste bekannte Wappen von Giswil geht zurück auf die Hunwil, die im 14. Jahrhundert das Meieramt mit der hohen Gerichtsbarkeit in Giswil innehatten. In der Regel wurden für die Dinghöfe immer die Wappen der Meier verwendet, hier liegt offenbar eine Verwechslung vor, denn das Wappentier der Hunwil ist ein schreitender und später ein steigender Wolf auf blauem Grund. Der Grund für die Verwechslung könnte die Namensähnlichkeit Hunwil = Hundwil sein, aber auch die Tatsache, dass der steigende Hund im Wappen der Abtei Murbach als Oberherr des Klosters Luzern genau dem Wappen des Dinghofes Giswil entspricht.
