Object history
Deutsch: Hans Eugster-Kündig: Prof. Dr. phil. E. Steinmann, Trogen, sagt, dass die älteste Petschaft der Gemeinde Waldstatt aus dem Jahr 1804 stammt und in einem ovalen Schild zwischen vier Tannen eine Kapelle mit Haubenturm zeigt. Dieser Schild wird von einem Bären als Schildhalter getragen. Dass dieser Bär ins «grosse» Wappen aufgenommen wurde, wird ebenfalls als heraldisch richtig belegt. Bei der Darstellung eines Wappens im Siegel kann sowohl das «kleine» Wappen (also nur der Schild ohne Schildhalter) verwendet werden, wie auch das «grosse» mit Schildhalter, wie es das verwendete Siegel von 1804 zeigt.
Aus diesen Überlegungen hat der Gemeinderat an seiner Sitzung vom 10. Februar 1970 beschlossen, der Gemeinde zur 250-Jahr-Feier das richtige Wappen zu geben.
