In het boek van Phillips staat een identiek exemplaar beschreven als polsbeschermer met als herkomst de Tutsi uit Burundi. Er is weinig geschreven over dergelijke polsbeschermers die gedragen worden door boogschutters. Doorgaans worden ze aan de linkerpols gedragen ter beshcerming van de voorarm tegen het terugspringen van de boogpees. Deze massieve houten beschermers zijn zeer zeldzame objecten en worden meestal beschreven als armsieraden, omdat ze niet lijken op polsbeschermers. De objecten zouden wel toebehoren aan hooggeplaatste boogschutters, misschien koninklijke lijfwachten, en zouden hun sociale status aangeven (Phillips, 1996:157). |
